George Smaistrla is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a 25-provider otolaryngology and allergy practice in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. Valley ENT is the largest otolaryngology practice in Arizona and focuses on neurotology, head & neck cancers, allergy and asthma, and voice changes with specialty clinics involving a multi-disciplinary approach.

Mr. Smaistrla reports directly to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and serves as an ad hoc member of all committees. Mr. Smaistrla joined Valley ENT in August 2006 and has over 15 years of experience of healthcare administrative experience in financial operations, clinical operations, billing and accounts receivable management, physician and staff recruitment, and marketing. He is a certified coder, receiving this credential in 1997. He has served on the Leadership Council of the Association of Otolaryngology Administrators (AOA), functioning as the Editor of the Oto’s Scope (2003-2007), the AOA’s quarterly publication, and co-chair of the Commications Committee. Mr. Smaistrla is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and also a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) in the Medical Group Managers Association (MGMA). He is currently a fellow designee in MGMA

Prior to joining the Valley ENT, Mr. Smaistrla worked as the administrator for The ENTA Institute (1999-2006), a large 5-man otolaryngology practice, and prior to that, a principal of Practice Consulting Services (1993 -1999) where he directed their medical services organization for 45 practices and practice management consultation department. He has also worked for Memorial Health System (1989-1993) where he served as Director of Patient Financial Services, and Hopedale Medical Complex (1984-1989) where he served as Assistant Administrator.

Mr. Smaistrla has a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Computer Sciences and Management from the University of Illinois, and is currently working on his Masters of Business Administration.
